Frequently Asked Questions

When is the application deadline?

The deadline to be entered into the lottery for the 2017/18 school year is April 3, 2017! Applications will still be accepted and automatically placed on the waitlist thereafter.

How does the lottery work?

When a family applies for a seat at Democracy Prep Public Schools their applications get submitted into our applicant pool. The lottery is dynamic in that it is randomized but preference is given to scholars within Community School District in which a Democracy Prep school is located. Our schools are located within Districts 4, 5, and 9.

Preference is also given to an applying sibling(s) of students currently enrolled at a Democracy Prep school. The prospective charter in which the sibling attends is where they will receive preference.

How is the waitlist managed?

After the lottery is held scholars not initially drawn from the lottery are placed on the waitlist. Our waitlist is also dynamic based on the same randomized preference criteria as our lottery. When a seat is made available at a school a family will be called in the order of the school's waitlist.

How does sibling preference work?

Sibling preference is given to the sibling of a current scholar who lives in the same household and/or shares the same legal guardian.
