Friendship Is More Important Than Love Essay

  • Is Friendship the most important thing in the world?

I believe that friendship is not the most important thing in the world, there are more important things like family or hobbies. This is an opinion, so it is up for debate.

The term friendship means “a relationship of mutual affection between people.” Characteristics present in this bond are kindness, honesty, and loyalty, to name a few. Research has suggested that friendship is vital to people, but never said it is the most important thing in the world. The term “most important in the world” would suggest that the item or idea was so crucial to somebody, that they could not live without it whatsoever. The items that belong in this list would be oxygen, water, food and many more. But even they cannot be assigned the label of being “the most important in the world.” The items named above cannot be placed above each other, as all of them are crucial to life and you wouldn’t be able to live otherwise. Friendship, however, does not belong there. You can live without friendship, just not a very happy one. Also, family is more important. They are the people who raised you up, fed you, clothed you and loved you. Your friends however are merely tools, to be used to achieve more and more. You might like them, but family is still a notch above. Your family will always be more reliable and trustworthy, you can pour your sorrows to them but they won’t spill them out to outsiders. To illustrate the point above, there is an extreme but somewhat effective argument that argues that when you are stranded on an island with little food and water with friends, those same friends will fight tooth and nail to survive. Family meanwhile would band together and overcome their difficulties. The sad reality is, humans are fickle creatures. They seek their own gain over the gain of society.

There will always be some people who would argue that “friends greatly benefit you, as a result they are the most important in the world and life.” Well, go on that island and see for yourself. Your “friends” will be the cause of your grief and demise. Also, how can they be “the most important thing?” You are implying that oxygen, food and water are all nothing compared to friendship. These types of people have yet to see the real world. Another classic example would be: “Other relationships may fail because of dishonesty, jealousy, ego or arguments. This does not happen with friendship.” Really? Of course this happens everywhere, especially in friendships. For example, you get good marks in a subject, and your friend is probably jealous of you, and will dishonestly congratulate you as green worms zoom around in their stomach. There are many smarter people who say that even family

  • Friendship is not the most important thing in life.

Not the most important thing I do agree friendship is an important and central thing I'm many people's lives however it is not the MOST important thing.
This is an extreme example but let's say you are starving to death after your boat sank and left you stranded on a desert island. In this case even though u might have friends with u their importance would take a backseat as food, water and the essentials would take priority over them.

  • Friends Are Not The Most Important Thing In Life

Family should always come first. Friends come after. I agree that we do need friends, but they are unpredictable and can turn against you at any given time.

Another reason is if you are in a threesome, there is always that one person that gets left out from going to watch a movie, or having a sleepover and sometimes, this friendship turns into trying to be the person who spends all their time being included in the twosome. I believe that family are more reliable than friends, because humans are unpredictable.

  • While friends are important, no.

I mean don't get me wrong, friends provide a lot of things we need like a sense of well being and inclusion. But one thing that all people need to know is there is one central priority in all you do if you wanna stay happy in life, and that is yourself. You need to make sure you are stable and happy with yourself before you depend and trust others. While friends can help in rough times, they can also cause them, so you need to be prepared for that.

  • No Its Not The Most Important

Friends, Yes they are important but are they exactly the MOST important thing? Friends are just like weights... Once your achieving and aspiring they are dragging you down most of the time. Sometimes its better to have a limited amount of friends. . . . . . . . . .

  • Friends become increasingly important to health and happiness as people age, according to new research in the journal Personal Relationships. They’re so crucial, in fact, that having supportive friendships in old age was found to be a stronger predictor of wellbeing than having strong family connections.

The new paper explores the findings of two studies about relationships. In the first, involving more than 270,000 people in nearly 100 countries, author William Chopik found that both family and friend relationships were associated with better health and happiness overall. But at advanced ages, the link remained only for people who reported strong friendships.

“I went into the research sort of agnostic to the role of friendship,” says Chopik, assistant professor of psychology at Michigan State University. “But the really surprising thing was that, in a lot of ways, relationships with friends had a similar effect as those with family—and in others, they surpassed them.”

For the other study, Chopik analyzed a separate survey of nearly 7,500 older people in the U.S. Here, he found that it wasn’t just important to have friends, but that the quality of those friendships also mattered.

When people said their friends were a source of strain, they reported having more chronic illnesses. (Interestingly, that was not the case for people who reported strain from their spouses and children.) When their friends were a source of support, people were happier.

None of this is particularly surprising, says Chopik. After all, unlike our family, we can choose our friends. “A few studies show that we often enjoy our time with friends more than with family,” he says. “We do leisurely things with friends, whereas family events are often serious or maybe a little monotonous.”

The benefits of having close pals may also be stronger for older people because, by that point, those friendships have stood the test of time. “You have kept those people around because they have made you happy, or at least contributed to your wellbeing in some way,” says Chopik. “Across our lives, we let the more superficial friendships fade, and we’re left with the really influential ones.”

But Chopik says the power of friendship on physical and mental health is often ignored in research—especially in older people, where relationships with spouses and children are often considered more important.

And while it’s true that family members are often the people who provide caregiving support to the elderly, he says this can also create a sense of obligation. These relationships are certainly beneficial and often vital, Chopik adds. But they may not provide as much joy as those with long-time friends do.

Of course, some people can share powerful friendships with their siblings, spouses, children and other family members—and that’s a positive, too, says Chopik. “The general point is that the more support, the more positive interactions, the better,” he says. “The important thing is having people you can rely on, for the good times as well as the bad.”
